New Coin Series for Belize

The Central Bank of Belize (CBB) has revealed the designs for its new coin series which celebrates the Central American country’s national symbols and is intended to complement the 2025 National Heroes banknote series.

Minted by the Royal Canadian Mint and entering circulation in September 2026, the new National Symbols series includes the same six denominations as the previous series. The diameter of the coins likewise remains the same with the exception of the one cent coin, which will be 19.25mm (slightly reduced from 19.51mm) and minted in a 10 sided shape (replacing the previous 12 sided scalloped shape).

The weight of each coin has also been slightly adjusted – 2.3g (previously 0.79g) for the one cent, 3.2g (1.045g) for the five cent, 2.35g (2.4g) for the 10 cent, 5.25g (5.66g) for the 25 cent, 8.25g (9.07g) for the 50 cent, and 7.3g (9g) for the $1 coins.
